OpenBSD - Session management

In case you start your session with KDM or GDM you do not have to read on.
However if you start X from the command line or from XDM or SLIM, then this is rather important.

• Linking the following two files will make the same session start through XDM and from the command line:
  $ cd
$ touch .xsession
$ ln -s .xsession .xinitrc
• Here comes a useful example of .xinitrc where a locale is set, keyboard is set, xterm started and a session is chosen:
  export LC_ALL=cs_CZ.UTF-8
setxkbmap cz
xterm &
#exec startxfce4 --with-ck-launch # starts XFCE
#exec /usr/local/bin/ck-launch-session /usr/local/bin/gnome-session # starts Gnome
exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session --sh-syntax icew# starts IceWM with a lot of goodies like gigolo working well

  There are in fact three sessions to start, the uncommented one is on. The ampersand after the xterm makes the script process on, otherwise it would hang until xterm is terminated.
