OpenBSD - Software installation

There are some important issues to make OpenBSD work comfortably after install.

make sure internet connection works
set PKG_PATH in your environement to be able to install apps faster and easier
# export PKG_PATH=ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/4.6/packages/i386
just make sure the version number and architecture matches yours (e.g. OpenBSD/4.3/packages/sparc)
then you can add packages as follows: # pkg_add -iv cups
After installing packages DO look for the postinstal info here:
/usr/local/share/doc/pkg-readmes
Many packages will not work properly without adjusting system accordigly.
Starting packages is done by adjusting the following line in your /etc/rc.conf.local pkg_scripts="dbus_daemon avahi_daemon cups_browsed cupsd slim "
To enable java, set the path:
edit your ~/.profile and addjust the existing path as follows: PATH=$HOME/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/games:/usr/local/jre-1.7.0/bin.
