Vim

• Set UTF-8 for the file in VIM
:set encoding=utf-8

you'll change the output encoding that is shown in the terminal.

:set fileencoding=utf-8

you'll change the output encoding of the file that is written.

• Using windows in vim.
  
  :new splits the screen
  CTRL+W jumps from one window to another
  :q closes the current window
  You can copy easily from a split to a split as vim shares the buffer.
  


• Using spellcheck in vim.
  
  - you need spellcheck for vim installed (on OpenBSD this is vim-spell-en)
  : set spell starts the spellcheck by marking red, orange and blue wrong, unusual and uncapitalized words
  : unset spell switches this off
  ]s jumps to the next highlighted word
  [s jumps to the previous highlighted word
  z= as standing on the highlighted word offers you a replacement
  zg adds the word to the dictionary
